A Guide to Distance Learning for Parents
UK distance learning has come a long way in recent years, with more and more people wanting to balance their work and family time, or gain a new skill without leaving their current job. The courses are great for stay at home parents with younger children or for those whose children are at school during the day and they would like to update their CV for the day they get back into the workplace. If you have access to the internet at home, there is a wide variety of online courses available from well known providers such as the Open University and Learn Direct. They offer loads of course materials and you can even get help with fees although a lot of courses are free of charge. Learn at your own pace, in your own time and you’ll be fully supported if you do get stuck.
There is plenty to choose from whether you want to change careers, learn a new skill or just get further in your current job. Choose from Undergraduate, Post Graduate or Professional Skills, and don’t worry if you’re new to learning – There are guides to help you get into studying and help you along and these can also be invaluable if you’re returning to learning after a long period away.
If you would like to try home learning from another provider, the best advice is to research your chosen course and see which options are available to you. There may be other ways, such as completely online courses, learning at your local library or community centre or the more traditional postal courses. You can find out about all your options by searching online, many providers have support and advice available by telephone if you would rather speak to a real person. Good luck and happy learning!
